Inspiration

April 6, 2008

This weekend was the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We didn't get to attend the sessions on Saturday, and I was very disappointed because it was Saturday when Thomas S. Monson was sustained as the new President of the church. I would have liked to sustain him also.

I most enjoyed the talk by Elder M. Russell Ballard. He spoke about how young mothers can better handle family life and how other people can help mothers. Elder Ballard gavea lot of good instruction that it was good to learn or be reminded of.

  1. Remove pressure and enjoy your family. Pray for guidance. Enjoy the moments you have with your family. DON'T OVERSCHEDULE! (That's not really a problem I have, but I know some people do.)
  2. Husbands can support wives and children. Show appreciation. Spend time together. Give your wife time away--alone. Come home from work and take an active role in the family.
  3. Children can help too. Help with chores without being asked. Express thanks. Hug your mom often and tell her you love her.
  4. The church can also help. Auxiliary leaders should be considerate of the time and demands puts on mothers when scheduling or in callings.

I hope all of you who attended General Conference also enjoyed it!

New church calling

Sunday, February 3, 2008

Carmel was released as the 1st Counselor in the Young Women program at church. She wasn't in this calling very long, but it was time for the entire presidency to change. The counselor in the Bishopric forgot to call Carmel to her new calling. There's always next week!

Carmel was called as a Primary Worker in the Primary program at church. She's teaching the 10-11 year old girls, which happens to be Anuhea's class. The class is big for Primary--18 girls are on the list, and about 10-12 girls show up each week. Thank goodness Carmel doesn't need to teach the boys too!

Everyone's studying the Book of Mormon this year so it's fun to teach the lessons and encourage the girls to share what they learned at home. (The lessons are usually similar to what the adults have learned.) Many of the girls are very talkative, but they're fun too.

Beautiful building

September 3, 2007

It was a holiday, and we enjoyed not having to go to school (or drop off/pick up anyone from school). It was Labor day, but why "labor" when you can enjoy the beauty of the temple?

We drove to the Orlando Florida Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The temple was quite far away from where we live--maybe 40-45 minutes drive--but it was worth it. I also quickly stopped complaining about the distance, because that was much closer than the ride to the temple in Taiwan. Although the temple is closed on Mondays, and we wouldn't have been able to go in anyway, we enjoyed the beauty of the building. We took pictures and walked around the grounds. It was breathtaking.

If you ever have the chance to visit an LDS temple--anywhere--do it, and enjoy it! Here are more pictures.
