Science Fair

May 8, 2008

Anuhea worked on a science fair project involving frozen liquids. She wanted to find out which of 4 frozen liquids would stay frozen the longest. Tonight we went to the school to see all of the 5th grade science boards. It was very interesting to see what some of the students researched and their results. All or almost all of the other classes in the school did a project as a class too.

Here are some pictures.

This is the project Hokulani's class did. They wanted to find out which color M&M would be found most in a bag. The result was more GREEN M&Ms.

Science Project

April 18, 2008

Anuhea had to come up with a topic for a science project that she needs to work on for a month. She decided to freeze different liquids and see which one melts the fastest. In preparation for the students' projects and displays, Anuhea's class did an experiment with bubble gum. Here are pictures of the board Anuhea's group made. I think Anuhea will do a great job for her own board because she did a lot of the work on this one.

School picnic

April 11, 2008

Stenstrom Elementary School had a family picnic at school for lunch. I went to the school to have lunch with our 3 daughters. It was nice that parents, grandparents, etc. were allowed to enjoy lunch with the children. We sat on the playground area. Tents were set up for each class or grade. I took our camp chair to sit on. We were able to choose between hamburgers or hot dogs. We also got chips and a drink. We had a nice time, but it sure was a HOT day to be outside.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Monday, March 17, 2008

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all ye Irish out there (and to those who just want to celebrate)!

Hokulani's class had a project to make a leprechaun trap, using a shoe box and other non-dangerous items. We helped her make the trap and she turned it in on Friday so she could try to trap the leprechaun today.

Hokulani came home with her trap and said, "The leprechaun didn't take the gold." (The gold in the box was made from old necklaces we got from the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. I cut the string so they'd be in pieces. See the cup in the box?) I told her that we didn't want it to take the gold. We just wanted to trap the leprechaun. Unfortunately, she didn't catch the leprechaun, but she got 2 gold coins (play coins), and was happy about that.
