Baby Shower

We had a great baby shower last night! Thank you so much to Carmel's visiting teachers, Beth Wampler and Katherine Parker.

These were some of the party guests. . .
Venita Dimmick and Aleshia George:
Mandy & Sarah Dimmick and Liesle Winters:
Kimarie Howard (her back towards the camera), Melissa Duncan (looking down), Venita Dimmick, and Carmel:
Ellen Roberts, Annelle Griffin, and Dina Roberts:
Jules Orme, Mylinda Butterworth, and Judy Bowden:
One of the games was naming baby animals from a list of the adult animals. Most of them were easy, but some were quite difficult. Here, everybody's trying to figure out the answers.
Another game was to make a baby out of bubble gum. It was actually difficult, and Carmel thought her gum baby looked like an alien. Carmel got to be the judge of the babies. She was so surprised when she looked at the bottom of the winning plate and saw Anuhea's name. Anuhea won! She got foaming hand soap from Bath & Body Works.
This picture shows Anuhea's gum baby. It's on the pink plate at the left of the picture.
We got A LOT of gifts. Everyone was so generous. There were clothes, towels, things for the car, a diaper bag, and lots of other goodies.
The party favors were so elegant. They were chocolate dipped pretzels.

The party favors each had a cute charm on the end, which may be hard to see here, but it says, "It's a girl!"

A new year, a new do (hairdo)

Jason and Carmel celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on Monday, February 11, 2008.

Jason gave Carmel a gift card equal to the value of 2 haircuts. Carmel was very excited about the gift because she had asked Jason to trim or cut her hair, and needed something done about it.

Carmel gave Jason 2 gift certificates for time on the driving range to hit some golf balls. Jason misses playing golf, and looks forward to using the certificates when he's not so swamped with school work.

On Friday, February 15, 2008 Carmel got her hair cut and was very pleased with the results. She doesn't expect to cut her hair again for a while, and Anuhea needed a haircut too so she let Anuhea use the balance on the gift card.

On Saturday, February 16, 2008 Jason AND Anuhea got their hair cut, and they look great!

Out with the old and in with the new!

Nalani's 9th birthday_020308

Nalani is 9 years old now! She had a birthday party on Friday, February 1, 2008. After considering at least 12 people to invite to her party, she finally invited 4 friends from church. It was a challenge just finding a good time to have the party because of other activities happening that weekend, but Friday worked out well.
From our family were Dad, Mom, Anuhea, Nalani, and Hokulani. Nalani's church friends were Alani Perriton, Mackenly Howard, Adda Batterman, and Alexie Silva. All the girls are in Nalani's Primary class except Alani.

We started with pizza and salad for dinner. Mmmm! Then the party guests painted wooden shapes. The girls painted turtles, dinosaurs, flowers, and others.

While the pieces dried, Nalani opened her gifts. She got a lot of fun gifts, and was very excited to try them.
Nalani got a set of Kid K'nex from Adda. Nalani and Hokulani love playing with the pieces and creating interesting creatures. Plus, the pieces are big so they're a safe size for children (like Hokulani).
Nalani got a kit to make foam animals, and she got candy from Alani.
Nalani got an art set with paints and an easel, and a ream of paper from Alexie. Now Nalani can try out her art skills and paint or draw some pictures.
Nalani got a bunch of fun items from Mackenly: a jump rope, a frisbee, a giant compass with chalk, a large Chinese-style yoyo (except in plastic instead of wood), and some kind of putty to mold and it will bounce. Fun!
After opening the gifts the girls were able to frost their own cupcakes. Then we sang "Happy Birthday" to Nalani who had a number 9 candle in her cupcake.
Everyone had a great time, and they LOVED talking. Nalani was excited to have a birthday party, and celebrate with her friends and family.
Happy 9th Birthday, Nalani!
