We had a great time preparing for Halloween evening. The children got out of school earlier since it was Wednesday--early day--and the time to go trick-or-treating couldn't come soon enough. Getting out early turned out to be a good thing because Anuhea & Nalani decided to change their costumes so we had to make them up.
Originally, Anuhea & Nalani were sister missionaries. They had dressed up that way to go to a Halloween party last week. Today, Anuhea decided she wanted to be a fortune teller/gypsy. Carmel suggested some kinds of clothes Anuhea could find in her mom's closet or her own closet & she found some. Then she found all kinds of jewelry in Carmel's box & put them on. Anuhea did a pretty good job for making it up herself at the last minute.
Nalani decided to be a pirate. Carmel suggested some clothes Nalani could wear. We made a hat and an eye patch out of construction paper and a sword with a cardboard box & foil. She was happy with it, but she kept having to catch her hat while out trick-or-treating because it didn't stay on well and there was a slight breeze.
Hokulani knew all along that she was going to be a fairy princess. We found her costume soon after moving to Florida, and bought her accessories this past weekend.
Carmel decided to dress up too since she was going out with the children. She used her accessories from her bellydancing class in Taiwan, and dressed as a bellydancer.
We were pretty much the first to start--at 6pm. The children couldn't wait any longer. They had been waiting for 3-1/2 years for this moment because no one goes trick-or-treating in Taiwan. We were out for an hour and a half, and were so tired of walking when we got home.
While we were out we saw some people from the neighborhood we recognized, but even more that we had never seen before. The children got so much candy that they could barely carry their bags in the end.
Jason stayed home and passed out candy to the children who came by. At home Carmel checked the children's candy and they were allowed to eat one.
